Methodist Aid With Mrs. Bishop The Methodist Ladies Aid so ciety met Friday, February 18, at the home of Mrs. F. O. Bishop corner Fifth and Lincoln. The business meeting opened at 3:00 o'clock and was followed by a social hour. Refreshments Were served at 5 o’clock. © @ W. R. C. Open Meeting Friday Afternoon The W. R. C. met at the I. O. ©. F. hall yesterday at 2:30 p. m. After the business meeting there was a short program upon Wash ington and Lincoln in charge of the Boy Scouts, Mr. and Mrs. Larson Entertain 20th Century Club The Twentieth Century club was entertained Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Larson. The 6:45 dinner was enjoyed by 14 members and Su perintendent T. B. Warren as guest. Mrs. Larson was assisted in serving by Mrs. F. S. Smith Mrs. H. E. Hadley and Miss Clara Larson. “Traveling By Air’ was the subject of a very interesting and instructive paper read by A. H. Pickford. Interested discussion followed the reading of the pa per. D. A. R. to Present Picture As has been their custom for some years members of Solomon Dean chapter, Daughters of Amer ican Revolution will present the motion picture film “The Pil grims” before the high school as sembly the afternoon of February 32. A.H. Pickford will be in charge of the presentation of the film which will be a story of the trials and persecutions of the Pilgrims in the mother country and of their brave efforts to establish themselves on the American coast where they would be free to worship as they please. Schaap-Schaap Nuptials Wednesday Afternoon An impressive marriage service was read at the Catholic parson age in this city Wednesday af ternoon when Mrs. Cecelia Schaap of this city was united in mar riage to Ira Schaap of South Da kota, Rev. George A. Stemm perform ed the ceremony in the presence of a few intimate friends. Immediately following the cere mony Mr. and Mrs. Schaap left overland for Cedar Rapids and other points. After an absence of a week they will return to Ne vada to remain until a location is determined upon. Mrs. Schaap is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Blink of Nevada and has made this city her home for the past three years. Mr. Schaap is a carpenter contrac tor. Mr. and Mrs. Schaap will be extended the congratulations of a wide circle of friends. Milford Social Hour With Mrs. Slocum Mrs. H. A. Slocum was hostess Wednesday to the ladies of the Milford Social Hour club at a 1 o'clock luncheon. Thirteen ladies enjoyed the lun cheon served by the hostess as sisted by Mrs. Harry Loucks and Mrs. Moat Hanson. The business meeting which followed the lunch eon featured the election of offi cers for the ensuing year. Mrs. Frank Allen was elected presi dent; Mrs. Mont Hanson, vice president; Mrs. Frank Frey, sec retary; Mrs. Josephine Powell, treasurer. The committee ap pointed to make out the calen dars for next year included Mrs. Frank Allen, Mrs. Norville Floyd and Mrs. Russell Warren. The flower committee for the year is composed of Anna Day and Ada Slocum. Following the business meeting games and contests were en joyed, Mrs. Stevenson was win ner of the heart hunting contest and Mrs. Harry Loucks of the valentine making contest. Guests for the afternoon included Mrs. Harry Loucks, Mrs. Ray Riddles barger and Mrs. Sabina Day. Clover Club With Mrs. English The regular meeting of the Clo ver club was held Wednesday af ternoon with Mrs. A. English at her home on Eighth street. Mrs. Minnie Cessna was in charge of the program of the afternoon reading a most interesting article on “Washington.” Mrs. C. Pp. McCord shared the occasion with the club members. During the social hour follow ing the program refreshments were served by the hostess as sisted by her daughter, Miss Olive English. Seresis Club With Mrs. Nebergall Mrs. R. W. Nebergall was host ess Wednesday afternoon to the regular meeting of the Seresis club. Mrs. R. E. McKim who was in charge of the program of the af ternoon read a very interesting paper on “Geological Survey.” A splendid attendance of mem bers with Mrs. A. C. Vaile, Jr., as guest enjoyed the pleasant club afternoon. Following the program and dur ing the social hour the hostess assisted by Mrs. Vail served light refreshments, Pythian Sisters Old Fashioned Party Nevada Temple, Pythian sisters, will entertain their husbands next Tuesday evening. Each member of the order is to come gowned in an old fashioned costume. Daughters of Veterans With Mrs. Lowman A very pleasant social hour fol lowed the mid-monthly meeting of Sarah Brown Tent, Daughters of Veterans held Wednesday ev ening at the home of Mrs. Mary Lowman. Following the regular work of the tent during which plans were made for the monthly meeting to be held at the I. O. O. F. hall when a luncheon and initiation will be featured, the hostess was surprised by the announcement that refreshments would be ser ved. This feature of the evening was in honor of a birthday celebrat ed by the hostess during th week. Mrs. Charlies Pleshck of State Center, former resident of Ne vada where her husband was op erator at the Chicago North West ern station was a guest Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Hopkins. Attorney B. B. Welty returned Thursday from a business trip to Milwaukee and Chicago. Byron Dean who has been in the city looking after matters relative to the Dean estate left Thursday for his home in Eu gene, Ore. Mrs. O. R. Salem has as her guest this week her sister, Mrs. Vernon Steffin of Dike, In. Mrs. E. R. Grove of Ames was in Nevada Tuesday attending the February meeting of the Stor) county board of education. Joe Brooks, for 35 years sex ton of the Nevada cemetery he retired from the duties and Fred W. Kahl's appointment by the Nevada Cemetery society has been confirmed by the city coun cil. Miss Ella Hopkins was in Cole Friday a guest of the St. James cemetery association at the home of Mrs. P. W. Hopkins. Father George A. Stemm he is spending some time in Anne during the absence of Fath. Campbell spent Thursday aft noon in Nevada attending to mins ters relative to the Nevada-Coie parish of which he is supply pas tor. Mrs. P. J. Boston left Friday morning for Lincoln, Neb., where she will visit at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. R. Sherwood. E. L. Conkie returned Tuesday evening from Milwaukee where he had spent the past couple of weeks looking after some business for the Nevada Construction com pany in which he is interested. C. S. Merrick of the Iowa Rail way and Light company was the Cedar Rapids Monday as business at the main office of the cor poration. Miss Dorothy Rainer has re turned from a visit at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rainer of Wells, Minn., and is again at her duties in the Tay lor grocery store. Attorney H. E. Nichol of Ames was a business caller at the court house Wednesday. County Superintendent George H. Kellogg was in Boone Thurs day afternoon acting as a judge in a debate between Boone and Denison. The American Legion presented Boy Scout No. 2 with a bugle at the monthly meeting held this week. The troop and their scout master, I. LeRoy Kent were guests at the dinner enjoyed by the Legion and auxiliary at this meet ing. Mrs. George Connolly who has been at the Iown sanitarium since she suffered a fractured hip is hoping to be sufficiently recover ed so that she may be brought home the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Phillips and children drove to Humboldt Sunday and spent the day with his broth er, Frank Phillips and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ole Thompson and daughter, Verna of Story City were Nevada callers Monday. Superintendent and Mrs. Kk. M. Spencer of Cole were Nevada visitors Tuesday evening, K. G. Ambrose returned home Monday from Extra, Neb. where he had attended the funeral of an aunt. Mrs. Abel, a sister of his mother, Mrs. J. W. Ambrose, Mrs. Abel has visited in Nevada a num ber of times. Mrs. Ed White continues to im prove from her recent illness and while still confined to her bed is recovering. Dr. L. Fitzgerald was in Omaha over the week end spending a few days with his son, John Fitz gerald who is attending the accad emy in connection with Creighton university. Joe Curtis and family are mov ing from near St. Anthony to a farm in Milford township. Mr. Curtis was a former resident of Milford and his many friends will be glad to have him return. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lough and family will move the first of the month onto the Howard Dawson farm just west of the viaduct on Lincoln way. Ed McConnell will return to the home farm which the Loughs are leaving.
