Faieral of Hon* Jehu T. Elliott.Probably the largest concourse of people ever assembled in Henry county, upon a like occasion, met at New Castle to participate ip, and -witness the funeral obsequies of Judge Jehu T. Elliott Tuesday.A meeting of the members of the bar was called, and assembled at the Court House at one o’clock p. m., and was presided over by Judge Frazer, an associate of Judge Elliott on the Supreme bench of the State, from 1864 to 1870.Appropriate resolutions were passed and remarks,eulogistic of the life, public services, and character of the deceased were made by Hon. John S. Newman,of Indianapolis, Judges Petit and Buskirk, of the present Supreme Court, Judge Frazer, Hon. B. F. ‘ Claypool, of Connersville, Judge Mellett, Gen. Grose, and James Brown, Esq., of New Castle, Mr. Riley, ot Greenfield and H. C. Fox, Esq., of this city. Represen tatives of the bar from Marion, Mad ison, Hancock, Fayette and Wayne counties were present, the bar of this county being represented by Judge Kibbey, C. H. Burchenal, Lewis D. Stubbs, H. C. Fox, A. B. Young, D. W. Comsjfcook and John L. Rupe.Judges Petit, Buskirk, Downey, Worden and Biddle being the entire bench of the Supreme Court of the State, were present and with Judge Kibbey, Hon. B. F. Claypool and Cha% H. Burchenal, acted as pallbeaieie. The ceremonies were simple and unostentatious, yet very impressive.Judge Elliott for many years occupied the position of Judge of the 13th judicial circuit, of which Circuit Wayne county at that time formed a part. By his fairness and candor, and bis inherent sense of justice, he enjoyed, in an ^p^aiil degree, the confidence and esteem of all with whom he associated. Many of the the older citizens of this county, who have had the pleasure of a long and intimate acquaintance with Judge! Elliott, will doubtless feel that in Ids I death they have each sustained a personal loss. He has passed away after a long and successful life, honored and respected by all, leaving a rich legacy to his friends, and untar-! nished name and a life worthy the emulation of any.
