NEW LIBERTY MINE NEAR OAK LANDG CITY BLEW UP WED. _ WESDAY MORNING. WESLEY ‘BUILDERBACK AMONG THE DEAD A frightful explosion occurred at the New Liberty mine, 4 miles west of Oakland City Wednesday morn ing which four men were killed Wesley Bilderback, brother of J. B Bilderback, the well known Oak land City Attorney, being among the dead. The following men were killed:— Ray Cockerham, 38 years old leaves wife and one child; Clyde Rinehart, 19 years old, un married; Norman Davis, 38 years old leaves wife and two children; Wesley Bilderback, 48 years old leaves wife and 7 children. All the men lived at Oakland City except Norman Davis who resided at Muren. The funerals will all be held this afternoon. Wesley Bitd erback was especially well known, in this county of which he was a na tive and where he was well liked by everybody. The accident occurred at 7 O’ clock. Wednesday morning It is, said that the blacksmith, ‘who was expected to start the fan, was sick and did not do so. The mine is said to be about 230 feet deep and when the men went below and their light ed lamps struck the accumuated ga, a terrific explosion resulted. The men were all instantly killed, and badly burned. The bodies were re covered between 12:30 and 2 o’ clock Wednesday. The New Liberty Mine is owned by Edward Hackett, of Louisville. The accident is one of the worst that ever occurred in this section of the country.
