Has singer in Scott Township at an early hour on last Saturday morning. A hot fire built in the heating stove caught the floor around the pipe and very soon the whole house was in flames. The family saved hardly a bit of clothing or furniture. Marcus News: The snow storm and blizzard of last week worked decidedly against the success of the auto institute and there were present only a small number to hear the lectures by the automobile expert, R. A. Leavill, who came to Marcus under the auspices of the engineering extension department of the Iowa State college. Peterson Patriot: The people of Peterson, at the election Monday, voted down the proposition of bonding the town for a sewer system. The count stood 83 for and 116 against. This set tles the sewer question for a couple of years at least. But a ie a good thing and something our town needs and no doubt will be brought to vote again within a few years. The defeat of the project, we believe, was caused parti ally by the fact, that the measure was not fully understood. Storm Lake Pilot Tribune: The home of Mr. and Mrs. “Dr. V. Redenbaugh has been’ “No deepest’ mourning this week ” caused by the sudden sum moning by death of the second youngest member of the family, the son Jesse whose little life fluttered out at ten o’clock on Tuesday night, February 9. Less than a week ago Jesse, who is a lad of twelve years, complained of a severe pain in his head which he be lieved to be the result of an injury which he sustained when he received a bump by coming in contact with a door. Storm Lake Pilot Tribune: At a meeting of the baseball committee held on Friday morning, Lyell Chapman was named as captain and manager for the coming season. Supporters of the team and the fans generally were anxious that ‘‘Sally’’ should remain at home this year and handle the team and the members of the committee were just as anxious. Not only is he a mighty fast catcher and a good batter, but he knows inside baseball and how to handle a team. He will be a valuable man from every standpoint and support ers of the team will be pleased that a home boy se‘to have charge of it.
