•Ifeiancholy Circumstance,It becomes our .painful duty this moruing to chronicle the sudden death ot Mr. SAMUEL SMITH, Sr., of Nescopeck township, Luzerne county, the particulars ot which, we understand, are as follows:Mr. Smith left his residence, near Summerville, in good health and spirits, on 'I'ues day morning last, on horse-back, for Philadelphia, via Hazleton, where he Lid intended leaving his steed. A short time after his deft0anmist;th:tiehaceofarparture, the horse returned home: it was|rjsnwmnted by one of his sons and taken back in pursuit of the father, who was found lying •n tlie road, speechless, about a mile from his roidencr, with his head fractured in a most shocking manner. He was conveyed back to his dwelling, where he lingered in exciminting pain until about ten o’clock, p. m., when his spirit took its etherial flight. He died of wounds inflicted by kicks from his horse,but how, or in what manner the accident cc*currcd, is to us, inexplicable.The deceased was about 55 years of age— a respectable farmer and very estimable citizen, In all the various associations of life, as husband, father, and friend, he was much es teemed for his character! tic anmbili y.
