NEWS JOURNAL STAFF Since January 1990, two businesses from the downtown area have relocated to North Plains Mall According to mall manager Richie Webb, All About Sports, 1 sporting goods store, and the U.S. Army and Navy recruiters moved into the mall from the Main Street shopping or Other new businesses opened up in the mall in 1990, Webb said. Pa’nache and ERA Realty opened, and Maurices reopened with a store twice the size of the original. However, the shift from Main Street to centralized shopping areas, or malls, should not represent the demise of downtown shopping, Webb said, a natural tendency for stores to move to a mall,” Webb said. “I don't think this will hurt downtown shopping. But it’s a nationwide tres ble said there is no ques tion that stores moving from downtown will have an effect on shopping, but he did not think that in Clovis the prob lem was as large as in other areas. ‘And there is not much room for more stores in the mall, Webb said. “There should not be many more stores moving out here,” Webb said. “I don’t have that much space.”
