Dist. 308 names schools, board choses principalsBy Edith McDonald World CorrespondentOSWEGO Traughber and Thompson were the names chosen by the Dist. 308 School Board Monday night for the two Junior high schools.The present building on Franklin Street will be named for T L Traughber. superintendent of schools for Dist. 308 from 1948 to 1968. The junior high under construction on Boulder Hill Pass will be named for Reeve R. Thompson, veteran music teacher in the Oswego schools who retired in 1969 after 38 years of teaching.These names were among those recommended by a committee of district parents. The wooden gym floor is in and has been stripped; work is continuing on exterior and inteior finishing. Mechanical, plumbing and heating work is nearing completion and will await board and administration acceptance.Board members, having observed the school furnace in almost constant operation, say they are anxious to have the heating system balanced before accepting responsibility for the heating expense.Asst. Supt. David McQueen presented a recap of three year s heating use and cost in all Dist. 308 schools. It showed evidence of conservation in the school with theresult that Dist. 308 gas bills increased by less than 30 per cent this year, which is less than that increase paid by most individual customers. Particularly good control was demonstrated by the senior high school where cubic feet of gas used decreased this winter. McQueen said.District heating bills have totalled $70.169 21 so far this year, comparing to SM.169 last year and $38,280 in 1974.In other business:I. The board cancelled the Feb. 28 meeting because of a conflict with the district basketball tournament;2 Permitted the Oswegoland Park District to conduct a summer program on school property:3.
