Radford College finished its regular season on a winning note. Saturday night with a victory—over—Clinch—Valley College. The 77-71 win evened the Highlanders record at 10-10 coming off a Friday night loss to Van Wesleyan. The official record for the Highlanders is 11- 10, however, since the final season, game with Bristol College scheduled for Wednesday was awarded ito Radford on a forfeit. Cold shooting istuing the Highlanders Friday night as they hit only 33 percent from the floor, mustering only 11 of 42 attempts in the first half. Wesleyan took advantage of the cold night and carried a ten point lead, 35-25, into the second half. Second Half shooting imprierator Radford, but Wesleyan forced the Highlanders out of their 2-3 zone into a man-to-man situation for the last 18 minutes.. The Highlanders battled back, and tied the score at 57-57 around the 244 minute mark.Wesleyan capitalizing on free throws in the closing minutes went to the final buzzer with has 65-61 advantage. — Wallace Foster led Highlander scoring with 17, and rebounding with 12, Emilio Adames who sparked the second half rally added 14 to the cause, all in the second half. Saturday night was a different story as the Highlanders played some solid team ball to push back a constantly threatening Clinch Valley team. Radford jumped to a slim 6-2 lead in the opening three minutes but then Clinch Valley took over and led the contest by only 23 points until the halfway mark in the first period. Tied at 16-16 Emilio Adames managed a steal and fed Jack Long who converted to give the Highlanders the go ahead. Both teams exchanged buckets for five minutes until Wallace Foster connected two jumpers in a row to give Radford a four point advantage. For the remaining five minutes, Foster and Long put on a brief shooting exhibition and Radford carried a 37-32 lead into the half. _ The Highlanders maintained their_five-point_advantage._tfor six minutes into the second half until Clinch Valley's Major Griffey started clearing the boards ,and the visitors came back within one at the 14 minute mark. With 12:54 remaining on the clock Clinch Valley tied the lime at 50-50 and the exchange of buckets confined for another four minutes, C.V. forged ahead 60-56 with 8 minutes remaining and appeared to have the Momentum going their way. The Highlanders fought back and the game tied six times in the next 4 minutes. Center Neil Sigmon converted two layups to give Radford the go-ahead with three minutes remaining and the slim advantage held until Jack Long hit on both ends of a one-and-one to boost the score to 74--69, with 36 seconds remaining. The closing seconds resulted in an exchange of free throws and Radford emerged the victor 77-71. Wallace Foster again led the Highlanders with a 28 point performance, Jack Long added another 18, and Warner Knick 16. Foster and Long teamed up for 27 rebounds, collecting 15 ,and_12 respectively ___ Clinch Valley’ s Major Griffey led all game scorers with 29, Guard Jerry Myers added 20 to the losing effort.
