Bell Saved Falgren only the bell, winding up the final round of the main go on the weekly amateur Elk’s boxing show Tuesday night, saved Eddie Falgren, Grand Forks welter, from a knock out by Billy Norton, Fargo. Tues day night’s card was heralded by fans as one of the best if not the classiest of the season's offerings by Leo Kossick, Elk club matchmaker and referee. Jack Nash, a newcomer to the Elk’s ring who hails from Portland, Ore., and Juddy Ruddy, fast Grand Forks 135 pounder, almost stole the show with their four round semi windup go that ended as a draw. From the first three round pre liminary on the seven-bout card, to the final six rounder the boxers were well matched and gave a good account of themselves. In none of the bouts was one boxer able to dominate the show or carry every round. The first round of the main event was uneventful, both boxers being cagey and testing the opponent be fore cutting loose with anything which might offer an opening. They traded punches to body and head, with Falgren landing the greater number but neither of them getting in any telling blows. It was Fal gren’s round by a shade. Falgren Takes Lead In the second round Falgren took the lead and landed often to the body. He also got in some left jabs to the face followed by rights to the head. Norton showed the effect when retiring to his corner at the close of the stanza. It was Fal gren’s round by a large margin. Norton came out of his corner the aggressor in the third. His burst of speed got Falgren almost wholly on the defensive but his attempts to cover up couldn’t stop Norton's hard punches to the head. Before the close of the stanza Norton took one in the midriff that hurt and it seemed that he almost went down Norton took the round. The fourth round was about even, both boxers being successful in parring tactics. However, Norton was the aggressor and was success ful in nailing Falgren a few times when he was coming out of cover, so it was Norton’s round. The fifth was the slowest of the bout, there was much clinching. It was a draw. Norton Comes Out Strong Again in the Sixth Norton came out of his corner with a burst of speed and cut loose with everything he had. Falgren went down for the count of nine from a hard right to the chin. He got up, steadying him self with one hand on the ropes, while Norton came in to land blow after blow to the head until Falgren went down again and the final bell sounded at the beginning of the ref eree’s count. Displaying a furious brand of in- fighting and willingness to mix throughout their four round en gagement, Juddy Ruddy and Jack Nash fought to a draw. From the opening bell both began to throw body punches and Juddy landed to the head and midriff with a few punches that hurt. Nash tied Rud dy up in the first round in clever style, putting a stop to the Grand Forks fighter’s efforts. The round ended in a draw. Warned on Rabbit Punches At the start of the second round Leo Kossick warned both fighters about using the rabbit punch. In this round Nash showed superior ity with his tactics on the infighting and landed a few effective blows to the head. It was Nash’s round. Juddy came back strong in the third to punish the Portland bat tier with hard punches to the head and beat Nash to the punch on the infliting. Nash's clever tactics were not enough to stop the onrushing and Buddy won the cant. The fiast round was a nip and tuck affair with both fighters land ing heavy blows freely, especially at close quarters. Nash fed during the first half of the round, but PRuddy CamMf,_back to hold the final stanza even Beta fighters were given a great ovation as they left the ring Fargo = Flying Finn. He was up almost immediately, however, but was groggy at the bell. The round went to Sullivan. Miller came out with a rush at the opening of the third, but Sulli van mixed willingly. Both mixed frequently and the round ended in a draw. Both fighters were tired when they answered the gong for the final set to. As they warmed up, however, they began to throw punches from all angles and the bout ended in a melee. It was a great fight, both youngsters battling every inch of the way.
