CONSTITUTIONALIST.AUGUSTA.FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1826.FaiuI)ItweiO’«rCOMMUNICATED.MEDICAL.THERE is no art in which a communits can have a more vital concern than that of Medicine. Its connexion with health and happiness, its influence upon the moral, and . physical destinies of. a people, and above Hall, its serious influence upon the continuation ot life itself, are so many circumstances evincive ot its importance. The impositions practised upon public credulity bv mere pretenders to the healing art, have in many cases, had a most unhappy effect, notonly in bringing discredit upon the whole profession, but also in exposing human life to the noxious experiments of unprincipled men. And though I make no pretensions whatever to a knowledge of Medicine, and am rather a sceptic, as to many of the positive assertions ot the science, vet I must express my joy that the Legislature of this State have taken measures to regulate the practice of Medicine tor the time to come.I he subjoined clause of an act on this head will show, some of the provisions made at the last session, to prevent future abuses. The gentlemen who are named in this act, without, any invidious comparisons with their other brethren of the faculty, would be ranked among the first in their profession ini any country, both tor talents and integrity.1.V.oihia:!iaiieoIshiiaagtISect1 on 5, And be it farther enacted, I hat in order to the proper regulation of the practice of Physic and Surgery, there shall be established a Board ot Physicians, to assemble annually at the seat of Government, who shall at their annual meeting, examine all applicants ; and if, on such examination they are found competent, shall t grant to such applicant a license to practice Physic and Surgery : Provided, that seven members of the said Board, shall constitute a quorum, to make such examination, and grant such license ; and provided also, That if any applicant, shall have studied, and received a Diploma from any Medical College, the said Board, or a Quorum thereof, shalllicense the said applicant, without examination.iP®KCTION’ 6, And be it further enacted,1 hat the following gentlemen shall consti-tutea Board of Physicians of the State ofGeorgia, to wit:—PTomlinson Fort, Milton Antony, James .
