Its connexion with health and (happiness, its influence upon the moral, and physical destinies of. a people, and above all, its serious influence upon the continuation of life itself, are so many circumstances evincive of its importance. The impositions practised upon public credulity by mere pretenders to the healing art, have in many cases, had a most unhappy effect, not only in bringing discredit upon the whole profession, but also in exposing human life to the noxious experiments of unprincipledmen. And though I make no pretensions whatever to a knowledge of Medicine, and am rather a sceptic, as to many of the positive assertions of the science, yet I must I! express my joy that the Legislature of this' State have taken measures to regulate thea.*wItvveioITIaneoso • Ipractice of Medicine for the time to come.1I he subjoined clause of an act on this head will show, some of the provisions made atithe last session, to prevent future abuses.|jThe gentlemen who are named in this act,!without any invidious comparisons with their other brethren of the faculty, would be ranked among the first in their profession in any country, both for talents and integrity.V.Section 5, And be it farther enacted,That in order to the proper regulation ofthe practice of Physic and Surgery, there shall he established a Board of Physicians, to assemble annually at the seat of Government., who shall at their annual meeting, examine all applicants ; and if, on such examination they are found competent, shall grant to such applicant a license to practice Physic and Surgery : Provided, that seven members of the said Board, shall constitute a quorum, to make such examination, and grant such license ; and provided also. That if any applicant, shall have studied, and received a Diploma from any Medical College, the said Board, or a Quorum thereof, shall license the said applicant, without examination.^ Section 6, And be it further enacted, 1 hat fhe following gentlemen shall constitute a Board of Physicians of the State of Georgia, to wit:—vTomlinson Fort, Milton Antony, James P.
