YANCEY Call and Post Staff Reported WARREN Defense attorneys began to call for tes timony in the trial of Andre R. “Kokomo” Williams, 21, of Second St. S.W. in Warren on Friday, Feb. 10. The prosecution team rested its case on Thursday (Feb. 9) after testimony was heard from Katharine Melnick, 64, of Wick St. S.W. George Melnick, 65, and his wife Katherine, were the victims of a brutal attack dur ing a robbery attack last August. George Melnick died of injuries sustained in the attack; Mrs. Melnick suffered serious injuries, including the loss of an eye. Charged with perpetrating the vicious assault were Willi ams, and another Warren res ident, Christopher Daniel, 19, of Transylvania Ave. S.E. Williams and Daniel, were charged with aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated rape and other charges by Warren investi gators. During testimony at trial last week, acquaintances and friends of the two men told of hearing Williams boast of beating Mr. Melnick with a stick, a piece of concrete, and a lamp base during the assault. One witness, Lance Owens, 20, of Lane Dr. S.W., testified that Williams was, “too high possibly on Crack (Cocaine) to remember the details of the crime.” Owens’ testimony on Williams’ use of the drugs prior to the crime was sup (See TRIAL/ Page 11)
