Vaughan Township hopes to enlist the co-operation of the village of Richmond Hill in im plementing a Taxi By-law simi lar to an existing by-law success fully employed in North York Township. At a meeting last Monday afternoon, Council along with Chief C. Mosher, discussed the various provisions of the by law. Ronald Cundy, owner of R. Cabs in Richvale (in Vaughan Township) and B.Y. Cabs in Rich mond Hill was also present for the discussion. Meters One of the principal require ments of the by-law will be the installation of meters in all taxi cabs in the township. The pro posed by-law would levy a li cense fee of $15 for the first car and $10 for each additional one. An annual license fee would also be charged for each driver. Un der the regulations enforced, a taxi would be limited in passen ger capacity to that set by the manufacturer. The by-law also lays out maximum working hours for drivers. Chief Mosher told Mr. Cundy that the by-law would empower him to scrutinize all advertising schemes and printing used in connection with the bus iness. Mr. Cundy told council that three taxi firms in the village had requested legislation from Richmond Hill council for the installation of meters that had been unsuccessful. Councillor Robert Kirk brought a familatary announcion in this which would mean they would not be controlled by the by-law. As the majority of outside calls are from Richmond Hill firms, council agreed that no decision should be made on the matter until it was referred to Rich mond Hill council to see if they would be willing to co-operate in the measure by passing similar legislation. Advantages In proposing the by-law some time ago, Chief Mosher pointed out that it would provide protec tion for township residents re garding fares and reliability of drivers and insurance against under-cutting and unfair compe tition for the various taxi firms in the area. If legislated, the by-law will affect Vaughan Township, only to Yonge Street to Highway 400. Turn Down Request Council turned down a request from the D. B. Rod and Gun Club of Toronto to amend town ship legislation Governing skeet shooting in the township. Two representatives of the club re quested permission to have shoots on property on the 8th concess ion on Sunday afternoons as many of the members work a six day week. Tenders were opened for the purchase of a fire chief’s car.
