Funeral services were held Sat urday afternoon at 8 o'clock from Whiddon’s Funeral Chapel, for Mrs. Rosa Lilian Yates, widow of the late J. W. L. Yates, who died earlier in the week at the home of a sister, Mrs. W. H. Blake, Tampa, Fla, following an illness extending over many months. The body arrived Friday night by train from Tampa. The rites here were conducted by the Rev. W. W. McKay, Pres byterian minister, assisted by the Rev. George W. Shirley, rector of the Episcopal church, and were attended by a number of friends of this former well known and beloved resident, who had spent the greater part of her life in Thomasville. Many beautiful flow ers attested the love and esteem in which she was held. Following the services the body was carried to Laurel Hill ceme tery where it was interred be side that of her husband who died some eighteen years ago. The fol lowing gentlement acted as_pall bearers: Messrs. John W. White, R. L. Wyche, C. M. Heath, J. 8. Searcy, J. ©. Pringle and Heeth Varnedee. The deceased was a native of Moravia , Iowa where she was born November 8, 1872. She was married November 11, 1891 in that city to Mr. J. W. L. Yates of this city, coming here as the bride and lving here until a few years ago when she moved to Florida to make her home with her sister, Mrs.. Blake. Three children were born to this union, an elder son, Mr. J. M. Yates, having passed away several years ago. The surviving children are Mrs. Margaret Muldrow, of Ral eigh, N. C., and Mr. Gans Yates of Tampa, Fla., were here for the rites today, together with Mrs. Gans Yates and Mrs. Julia Yates, of Tampa, widow of the late Mr. J. M. Yates. Other survivors are several sisters, Mrs. W. H. Blake, Tampa; Mrs. And Clair Spence, Albia, Iowa; Mrs. Eva Louella Robinson, Seattle, Wash; and Frances Sherman Sharp, of San ta Monica, Calif. Another broth er, Mr. T. P. Sharp, formerly of this city also, passed away sev eral years ago at his home in Texas. Many friends will remember Mrs. Yates during her long resi dence here, where she was active in the work of the Presbyterian church and that of the Order of the Eastern Star, being a char ter member of the local chapter. In 1938 she was Grand Hilestor of the Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of Georgia. She was one of the original spon sors and enthusiastic workers in the development of the annual Thomasville Rose Show, and as sisted in staging the first nearly twenty-five years ago. Her passing has been known with sincere sorrow here and in Tampa, where she had numerous friends, all of whom join with the bereaved ones in mourning her departure.
