DECLINES TO REFORM.—Officers Simmonds and Billings yesterday took a woman named Clara Powers, twenty-five years of age, and married, out of a house of prostitution on Elm street, near Fifth, at the request of her brother. When brought to the Chief’s office, and met by the brother, a respectable young man, who seemed much distressed over her condition, she abso lutely refused to leave her life of prostitution, and coldly repelled all his offers of assistance. It appears that she has a child of tender years, the father of which abuses her constantly. She had been in the house on Elm street only since Monday last.
