The Times They Vre A-Changin’ was altered radically, as Dylan modified the melody and used a rather unconvincing bass voice during the chorus. He then masterfully presented three great songs - Don’t Think Twice, It's All Right. Gates of Eden, featuring superb guitar riffs, and the beautiful Just Like A Woman. Dylan closed with It's Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding) which had the crowd up on Its feet with the great lines Goodness hides behind its gates/But even the president of the United States/Sometimes must have to stand naked.’’The Band then came on again with four tremendous performances: Rag, Mama,Rag,” Dylan’s This Wheel’s On Fire, The Shape I’m In.” and. of course, “The Weight. Conspicuously absent were any numbers from Cahoots or ’•Moondog Matinee. ThenYou which, despite iu strained rhyming of Ruth. Duluth, truth, and youth, came off as a great rock number. And then the climax, as Dylan with the words Aaah, once upon a time ... started into the classic Like a Rolling Stone. The song ended with everyone standing and clapping as Dylan left the stage. As the lights were doused once more, the silent tribute began as thousands lit matches, creating a virtual wall of stars which ended only when Dylan came back for an encore, a reprise or Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine)”. Then the forest of fire returned, and so did Dylan for an unprecedented second encore, an electirc, incredibly moving version of ’’Blowing’ in the Wind.” inexorably captivating. And then it was over. Back past Dylan T-shirts, posters, and other memorabilia. Back to Port Authority, on to Route 22 and ultimately back back to God’s little acre, Lafayette College. Babv Blue.If you don’t wii can win one of tDylan started the concert with Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I’ll Go Mine) from his Blonde on Blonde album, and stopping only briefly to say an honor to be here, Dylan and The Band plowed into an electric version of Lay, Lady, Lay from Nashville Skyline. The Dylan baritone was a little rough from the rigors of the tour, but he was totally convincing, the experience numbing as he authoritatively spit out the words whatever colors you have in your mind -the quick shift of the head from side to side, the look of defiance ‘Til show them to you and you’ll see them shine/’ Then, without hesitation, Dylan proceeded to Just Like Tom Thumb Blues, which elicited an ovation with the lines “I’m going back to New York City/I do believe that I've seen enough.‘ Rainy Day Woman No. 12 + 3o also brought the crowd to its feet as the marijuana-filled air reverberated with the cry that ‘Everybody must get stoned! After a mocking, laughing, and generally disappointing version °t It Ain’t Me Babe, the concert absolutely exploded into high gear as Dylan switched to piano for an incredible, sneering version of Ballad of a Thin Man f‘Aaah but something is happening here/But you don’tJones?What U ,S/D° y°U’ Mf‘Dyian men receded Into the background as The Band played of their standard numbers, ine Hand's playing was tight and “iperb in every way as they Z*1 through Stagefright /’ The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, King Harvest. When You Awake, and a jantajtically moving version of Dylan’s own I Shall Be Released. Then Dylan was back tor an electric version of All Along the Watchtower from John Wesley Harding that completely eclipsed the famous •mi Hendrix Interpretation.
