The Western Canada Roll-offs were held in Red Deer over the weekend to decide who would rep resent Central Alberta in the final series in Winnipeg to be held in late March. There were 72 men and 56 women entered in the West ern Canada Roll-offs in Red Deer, among which 7 men and 7 women qualfied to‘advance to Winnipeg. Doug Carritt of Red Deer won the Men's Competition, ‘while Vicky Wooten of Stettler captured the women's honors. Aline Frank was the only Drumheller and District bowler to win a position with the final ‘contestants, running a strong second. Sixteen games were rolled off to decide the positions—and after 15 games Aline Frank was running first. Vicky Wooden fired a 290 in her last game to knock Aline off the top rung. Jack Stewart made an except ionally strong early showing in the roll-offs, running as high as second on separate occasions, Hi shet four 300 scores but faded in the last four games. Al Hromada bounced from Sth to 10th through out the 16 games but dropped off the board in his last match. Ron Munro squeezed into Sth place af ter 15 games, but fell to 14th in his last game. Hromada needed a 232 in his last contest to make the finals, while Munro required a 243. Koih failed to do so -- and the Drumheller men will have to wait for next year.
