Calls were made and a host of friends thronged into the Perry rumpus m with gifts and congratulations. Edward Simmons, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fields, Mr. and Mrs. Oly Boy ns, Dr. Greenidge, Mr. and Mrs. Prather Hauser, Mr. Mel Whitby, Miss Nina Garner and yours truly. On Saturday noon in the Cen tury Room of the Club 666's Mrs. Laura Kate Pickens en tertained 36 ladies at bridge. Lucky winners of the beautiful nzes were Mesdames Helen sodle, Boonie Osborn Smith, Betty Harris and Fannette Nor ns. And at the same hour a half hundred number of ladies were being entertained at bridge by Ruth Webb at the home of Dr. wns on Arden Park. The secial features of the evening were talks by Arthur Simpliner, who is running for judge, and the suave Roi Ottley, author of the much headlined NEW WORLD A'COMING, who was in town as a guest of the El yottorian Business Girls Club for the YMCA Forum Series. While later the same evening in the Century Room of the Club 666's another of our top hostesses entertained more than a half hundred ladies at bridge. Twas Mrs. Leroy Smith. For this event scores of the old De troiters were on hand. Among them were Mesdames Marie Owens, Betty Cole, Irene Hun ton, Blanche Bowles, Catheleen Black, Nell Gregory, Virginia White, Angel Lambert, Vallerie Pettiford, Ruth Webb, Wilhe menia Woundluss, La Verte Cole, Teen Johnson, Edith Bland, Katie Loomis, Mary Ro berts, Lucille Lee, Pearl Pen nick, Madeline Fowler, Mar jorie Dodson, Adelle Wagner, Phyllis Colden and Mayme Jef fries. The dapper Roi Ottley who likes Detroit so well that he is remaining over from his engage ment Sunday until Thursday is being shown the town by his hosts Mr. and Mrs. George Reed. On Saturday nine they invited a few in to meet and greet most intimately the famed author. On Saturday noon the Motor City Press Club gave a luncheon at the 666's honoring the form er newspaper ace and war cor respondent. On Sunday morning Erma Keyes, Rachel Ulmer, Kather ine Weiss entertained at break fast at Erma's domicile on Jose phine honoring Ruth Giles Ken ner who is in our town for a few days from Los Angeles. Among those attending were Muriel Simmons, Frances Wil liams, Mattie Camp, Jeanette Jones, Evora’ Short, Roma Law son, Gwendolyn Hogue, Jean Duiguid. And that evening at the Kap pa House scores of people were filing in and out to meet Car ter Woodson, historian who is in town for Negro History Week at the request of The Associa tion for the Study of Negro Life and History. While in town he is the house guest of Mr.
