i $, 1907 Number 16Appeal forMurdered JewsA committee, representing Jewish organizations of Denver was organized last Monday night, January 28, to solicit funds, for the relief of the starving widows and orphans of Tevvali Bokser and Michael Weisblye, who were brutally murdered by Harold McKnaw and Wilbur F. (lilmer. When the terrible news of their tragic death spread through the city, all expressed the; lignation at the foul crime. The men forsook the land of their birth, to seek freedom upon the soil of America, and to win, by thesweat of their brow, bread for their dearJones left at home.A mass meeting of Jews was held some time ago to protest as American citizens against this wanton murder.C vIn a letter recently sent to one of the murdered men. there is a glimpse of the dire poverty of the bereaved families.'‘Not so Jong ago you sent me some money; but it is all gone. And now the severe winter is coming on, and the children are not at all prepared for it; no warm underwear and no shoes. What shall I do ? I would be glad to forget it, if only there was bread in the house. Don't save money to buy tickets for us to come to America. There is no hurry about it. But the children cry for bread. When our Borucli conies home at night from Cheder, and cries himself to sleep because I have nothing for him to eat, and the little ones also cry, my eyes grow dim and my heart is ready to break. The melamed (teacher) is patient enough and does not ask for his pay; but merchants have forgotten all pity. No money, no bread, they say. I can not apply for charity. Rather would I starve, than ask of my neighbors.”
