THE TOWN OF FLORENCE, Ed. Democrat: I wish, through your columns, to call attention of the public to a new town which I have laid out, on the south side of the Wabash river, on the C. R. Fr. W. ER. R. It is situated 16 mile south of De catur, the county seat of Adams county; 12 miles north of Portland, the county seat of J yv county; 15 miles south-east of Bluffton, the county seat of Wells county, and 23 miles north-west of Celina, county seat of Mercer county, Ohio, in a country unsurpassed in northern Indiana for its fertility of soil, and good timber. The belt of white-oak timber, especially in which it is situated, is certainly the finest that I ever witnessed. We have the best of wa ter, and in abundance; but as in nearly a northern Indiana, we have to dig for it. The railroad company has a war sta tion a few rods from the town plat, at the Wabiush river The situation is one of the most delightful that can be found on the road between Richmond and Ft. Wayne. In order to encourage improvements, I will give to any good mechnic or busi ness man, a fot free of charge, if he will put up a respectable building on the same the coming season; and to men who will put up a mill, a ractory, or other machin ery, I will give still further advantages and aid. To will also give liberal aid to any religious denomination that will build a church in the place. Our side track is al ready graded and will be Laid down early in the spring, on a beautiful plain of about 2200 feet. Though our town-plat is not yet recorded, we have already an arrangement for some business the coming season, and several buildings will be commenced as soon as the opening of spring, amongst which will be a good and commodious boarding house. I am moving my saw mill on the town plat, and hope to have it running by the first of Mares, and can af ford building lumber at rates from $10 to $12 per thousand feet. . Our town will come in competition with Geneva, one mile south of us, at which place the railroad company has a flag sta tion. This town of Genevi is unfortunate ly situated amongst the ponds, and adja cent to large sloughs and overflown lands, which lie on the west, south and east, some of which the traveler can witness as br: psses along the road, and amongst which is the “Loblolly,” co. There is not much improvement here yet, nor do we think there will be, after it is once known that we are offering our plat to the public, which is so much more beautiful and wholesome. Mine saw mill, one little plank dwelling house and one plank house used as a ware house, and the improvements at Geneva are about numbered. We hope to have our plat on record in a few divs, after which we hope to be able to afford bargains, BB. B. Syon. An old traveller tels a pretty tough story about being lost in the woods with his dog, where he could find nothing to eat,and to had cat off the dog's tail, which he billed, for himself, and afterward gave the dog the bone!) We would rather bor row a hundred dollars than believe that story. A Pennsylvania paper, in speaking of a songstress, says: ‘She beats cats on high notes. There was no music or chest tone in her voice, but it was about six octaves above the screach of a lost Indian.’
