Murder.—Our town, we are sorry to say, is acquiring quite a notoriety in disgraceful and atrocious acts. Within the last six months, two murders of a most brutal character have been perpetrated in the midst of our citizens—-within the borders of our hitherto peaceful village. The first was the murder of an old man, some sixty years of age—penniless and decrepit destitute and alone. The last of a citizen of the country—a neighboring farmer. On last Saturday evening, several intoxicated persons went to the tavern across Eel river, kept by Craig Harrison, for the purpose of having out their froliek, which they had commenced in town.— During the evening some altercation took place between Harrison and one of the party named David Scott, which ended in an affray. This is all that is known—the persons present being so much intoxicated as to be utterly ignorant of every thing save their own stupidity. After the fight Scott was found to have been stabbed in eleven different places, and was bleeding profusely, which he continued to do until he died, a few hours afterwards. Harrison was immediately apprehended and examined, and was committed to prison to await his trial, which will come oi* this court. !j
