She is the tenth vessel of its type launch-«ni by the yard and construction lime was fifty-five days, the keel having been laid September 22.The Liberty ship, Joseph Wey-domeyer, named for a one-time Prussian array officer who left Germany to become an American newspaper correspondent, was launched recently from the yards of the Delta Shipbuilding Company.The fifth of the new Victory ships to be built at the Bethlehem-Fairfield shipyard was launched recently. The vessel, which is named for a Connecticut town, was christened by Mrs. Theodore McKeldin, wife of the mayor.Three vessels of 4,820 gross, were launched at Lindholmens Varv, Gothenburg, last year, compared with three vessels, of 4,400 gross, in 1942. Three vessels of 5,185 tons gross, were delivered last year, and three vessels were delivered in two previous years. In addition, the hull of a vessel of 7,400 tons d.w., built under subcontract for Gotaverken, was launched during 1943. The vessels delivered last year were the cargo motor-ship Vicia, for the Rederi-a.b. Svenska Lloyd; cargo steamer Rudolf, for Rederi-a.b. Bifrost, Gothenburg^ and cargo motor-ship Induatria for Rederi-a.m. Svenska Lloyd. A new floating dock with a capacity of 2,000 tons, was under construction at the end the year.Four Swedish safe-conduct ships arrived at Gothenburg recently with various cargoes. They were the tanker Sveadrott, with oil from the Mexican Gulf, the Tong-hai, with coffee and cotton from Brazil, the Samelaud, with oil cakes from Argentina and the Vretaholm with a cargo of copra.Only one ordinary merchant ship, the passenger-cargo motor-ship, Orinoco, for the Rederi-a.b. Nordstjeruan, was launched at Kockrum8 mek. Verkstad, Malmo, lust year; she is of 362 tons gross, 6,540 s.h.p. The yard also launched the motor ferry Malmohus for the Swedish State Railways. Five merchant ships of 42,925 tons gross, were launched in 1942. Four motor-ships, 27,279 tons gross, were delivered in 1943, compared with four, of 34,300 tons gross, in 1942. The work in hand at the beginning of 1944 included four vessels, of 38,000 tons d.w., launched and fitting out, and 13 vessels, of 94,100 tons d.w., under construction or on order. The vessels delivered in 1943 were the motor tanker Glimmingehus, for Trelleborgs Angfartygs Nya A/B; cargo motor-ship Krageholm for SvenBka Amerika Mexiko Linjen; and the passenger-cargo motor-ships La Plata and Amazons for Rederi-a.b. Nordstjeman.The Hampstead Park, newest of a long line of Canadian freighters, slid down the ways of the United Shipyards recently. She is the 40th 10,000-ton freighter launched by the yard since its inception less than three years ago and the seventh of a new type Canadian ship. I
