UNLAWFULLY ON PREMISES A young soldier, Russell Drumgool Holloway (Mr. Ramsay), who ap peared on summons in the Polie Court yesterday, charged with being a rogue and vagabond, having been found by night, without lawful ex cuse, of December 27, on the en closed yard of a dairy in Lake Road, Takapuna, was sent to prison by Mr. J. H. Luxford, 3.M. The evidence for the police was that Holloway was found hiding in a garage, where two empty tins and a igneth of rubber hose were found. Olloway admitted that he wanted a gallon of petrol to start a car which he was repairing for a friend. He knew the owner of the garage, and if he had got petrol he intended to return it when he redeemed a petrol coupon. “Tl am quite satisfied that you were on the premises and that you attempted to steal petrol,” the magistrate told him. “As I have said before, the theft of petrol in the present circumstances must be pun ished severely. While I am loth to send a first offender to prison, you will be sentenced to six weeks’ im prisonent with hard labour.”
