Saturday BlizzardStops Hevern’s Car]eslt;«The thrill, (if you want to call it f that) that is experienced once in a : Lifetime come to Erleen, Lola and , [one Hevern who were stranded last Saturday afternoon in their father's car which had become lodged in a huge snow drift near the Robt. Ma- | nhoney, Sr., farm east of Oxford on highway No. 6.Early Saturday morning Mr. Hev-ern and his three daughter’s and Mr. | Elmer Douglass drove to Iowa City, They experienced little trouble in | a making the trip, in fact on going a short distance with chains, the chains were taken off.On their, return in the afternoon 11 the storm become more severe. But 1 even so they were able with no | J chains to get as far as the Oxford cut-off before they experienced any | r real difficulty,•As soon as the car was headed north the driving wind from the west I i made a veil of snoyr that was almost 1 impossible to see through, In front 1 of the Tom Rourke farm the snow 1 had drifted several feet deep across i the road* . .However*-, the^ Hevern car 1 was able to get through the first one, | lt;•but some two. or three hundred feet further along, blinded by the snow 11 Mr. Hevern in trying to negotiate the drifts lodged his car in a bank 11 and there it was to stay for an hour 1or more.Mr, M. E, Baker who had been trailing the Hevern car from Tiffin west tried to push the stalled car out of the drift. This was found impossible and the chains on the Baker car dug all the more deeply into the 1 snow.In the meantime M*r. Hevern waded back to the Rourke farm to summon help. After repeated efforts the Baker car was backed out and in making a run to negotiate the drift finally was able to inch along until a smooth spot on the paving was found. On returning to the Hevern car it was discovered that Erleen, Lola and lone were in the back seat where they had been suffering considerably from the cpld. They were invited to ride into town in the Baker car which had the heater going at top speed. The invitation was more than gladly accepted and after bucking several more snow drifts the girls arrived in town, thankful indeed that they had not been forced to wait in the stalled car. It was an experience they will not soon forget.About an hour later the Hevern car wag pulled out of the drift by-the wrecker.j
