ASHTABULA — Virginia M. Carter, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula County Med ical Center. Born Oct. 28, 1915, in Williamsfield, she was a daughter of Frank H. and Lucy M. (Hayford) Furber. She had been a lifetime area resident. She was a graduate of Williamsfield High School. She worked for over 20 years as a cafeteria worker for the Buckeye Local schools. Prior to that, she was a beautician. She was a member of the OK Rebecca Lodge and the Non certified School Employees Labor Union. Her hobbies were gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. Survivors include four sons, Vernon Jr. of Redondo Beach, Calif., Carl of Willard, Timothy of Ashtabula and Bradley of Mineral Ridge; three daughters, Donna Ansevitz of Winches ter, Ky., Diane Hawley of Chagrin Falls and Carole Ranta of Ft. Washington, Md.; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchil dren; and four sisters, Helen Luoma and Bunny Sneary, both of Ashtabula, Dorotha Childs of Andover, Lee Jana of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ver non Carter, in 1983; one daughter, Dixie Lee Carter, in 1973; and one sister, Hazel Furber. At her request, there will be no service. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p. m. Wednesday at the Ross- Billman Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Ashtabu la County.
