A total of twenty-four business and residential burglaries were solved and several items and cash were recovered, following the apprehension of seven juvenile suspects by the Delphi Police Department on Feb. 2. Additional crimes committed in the County are also being resolved through the investigation. Over the past 45 days, Delphi and surrounding area have had burglary activity. Both businesses and residences were victims of mainly late night, weekend entries. Items such as laptop computers, radios, jewelry, and cash were taken. As a result of information gained by the Department, the juveniles were questioned and the burglaries resolved. Through the cooperation of some of the suspects, contraband was recovered and returned to the owners. The juveniles were released to their parents by authority of the Carroll County Probation Department, pending formal Delphi Police Officer Stan Wallace received information concerning a business and residential burglary about a week before the arrests. He was assisted by Officers Brook McCain, Darrel Noonkester, David Yeager, and Sgt. Gary Armstrong, in the investigation which led to the apprehension of the juveniles. Nineteen of the burglaries were in the City of Delphi, and five in Carroll County. The juveniles ranged in age from 10 to 17, with one 19-year-old involved. Most juveniles were age 15. Among the locations burglarized were “the Softball Shack, Whiteman Elevator, Council on Aging, the Delphi Laundromat, Ten Pin Alley, Carroll Turf, Smittys, Canal Park, The Thrift Shop, Delphi Body Works, Yeager Sullivan, and Sunoco. Delphi Police Chief Larry Ives said, “I am very proud of the police work accomplished by our department. Our officers spent many hours and were very meticulous in the investigation and because of their efforts they have resolved all of the outstanding burglaries in our community for the past several months.” “Statistically, only 7% of the population commits 90% of the crime. This is an example of how the arrest of a few people can resolve many crimes.”
