Sigm a Nu Takes Crown; Lord an Leads46-39WinBy DON BOTTSigma Nu mixed good outside 1 .shooting with good rebounding and 1 a tight defense to win the intrn-? mural basketball title, defeating » Phi Delta Theta, 46-39.(Jury Marshall was the big gun r for Sigma Nu, hitting on long outside shots in the first quarter ‘ to help his team get off to a 15-10 ' lead, and then sinking seven• straight foul shots in the last quar-‘ ter to stave off a late Phi Delt• rally. Don Lordau added 14 points, r mostly on long jumpers, and handled most of the baokcourt chorea- for Sigma Nu. Gordon Swanson* was high man for Phi Delt with 15 points, although he was forced to? shoot from far outside most of the . time. Sigma Nu won the opening tap■ and Lordan sank the first shot of 1 the night to get on early lead.George Hossenlopp countered with another long shot and tied the score. The game was n see-saw ‘ battle until late in the first qunr-1 ter when Sigma Nu took a five 1 point lead. Both teams played tight, aggressive eon© defenses, but• Sigma Nu’s lead in rebounds en-* abled them to get more shots.In the second period Don Lordan did most of the scoring as Sig-* ma Nu pulled out to a 27-17 lead. : Phi Delt substituted freely, but* Sigma Nu stuck with the name five■ men throughout the game. Sigma Nu also avenged a twenty point defeat suffered at the hands of Phi Delt only one week ago.Quarter Finale In the quarter finals leading to this final game, Sigmn Nu trounced Phi Psi 63 -36. DonLordimandGeorge Tom chick led Sigmn Nu with 24 and 16 points, while Dick Repsher and Al Curncuzz© had 13 and ten for Phi Pal. Phi Delt won a hard fought 58-50 vie tory over Theta Delt, although Tony Borden of Theta Delt led the scoring with 18 points. GeorgeHossenlopp paced Phi Delt with 14 points. Phi Gam rolled to a 56-41 victory over S.A.E., with Bruce Fletcher of Phi Gam and Dave Robins of S.A.E. tying for game honors with 17 point? apieco.In the only semi-final game, Phi Delt won an easy 49-27 victory over Phi Gam. It was a bad day for the Fijis, who couldn't find the basket or cope with Phi Dolt’s defense; Bill Shelden was their high scorer with nine points. Gordon Swanson led Phi Delt with 14 points. The loss left Phi Gam in third place in the TM ratings.Easton First won the FroBh Dorm League crown w'ith a 68-50 win over South Second. Katz and Richling led Easton with 20 and 15 points respectively^ while Hol-deen was high for South with 14 points.
