SeekBasinTVStationCable Operators File For Permitt.The Farmington Broadcasting company will seek a construction permit to build a locally-operated Channel 12 television station, I. E. Shahan, president of the firm, announced today. The company is owned by the stockholders of the Community Television company here which operates a cable system to bring Albuquerque television to Farmington.Shahan said that his companyalready had petitioned the Federal Communications Commission for allocation of Channel 12 to this locale. The FCC had previously allocated Channel 17 to Farmington, but Shahan pointed out that Channel 12 is more desirable, particularly because all sets in this area are usable on the VHF channels and many cannot be used without a converter on the UHF channels such as Channel 17.The live television station here will in no way affect the operation of the cable system, Shahan said, and plans still are being completed to bring three Albuquerque channels to local TV viewers through a micro-wave system from I Huerfano Peak. The three channel equipment already has been shipped, and company officials expect it to be in operation within several weeks.The application for the construction permit will be made as soon as the channel allocation is received, Shahan said, and he reported the station would be on the air within six months after the construction permit is received.Shahan said he and other officers of the company, formed and incorporated in November, believed that thfc» community needs and deserves some television ex pres-, sion. |The proposed station would be25,000 watts ^radiated power and the signal would be put into the cable for those on that service and will be broadcast as well so that it can be received without cost to television owners in the Farming-ton area.Shahap said the station would attempt to be affiliated with all three of the major networks, a policy not unusual in cities where there is only one TV outlet.Studios, transmitter location and tower probably will be located north of the city where the present Community TV tower is located, Shahan said.
