Dr. J. E. Powell, a former Mc Culloch County physician, was rescued by firemen in San Angelo Tuesday night after being over come by smoke in a fire at the home of his son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Bratton. Two Walding men, R. E. Bris coe, 58, and his son, Tommy Bris coe, 26, were burned in an at tempt to reach Dr. Powell before the firemen arrived. Bratton also suffered slight burns The Briscoes and Dr. Powell were taken to Shannon Hospital in San Angelo. Bratton was treat ed and released. Dr. Powell, who is retired now, lived in McCulloch County many years and practiced in Brady at one time. He left about 18 years ago, moving then to San Antonio. Recently he had been living with Mr. and Mrs. Bratton. The Brattons and the Briscoes were in the living room and Dr. Powell, who underwent a leg am putation after an auto wreck several years ago, was in his bed room when the fire broke out. Three rooms of the Bratton home were gutted and three others heavily damaged.
