CHy Aflklrt. All Irregularities in the proceedings of the city council of Logansport are being repaired by non pro tunc entries. It was first introduced by Judge Pykeman at the 12th of June convention of 1872 at Indianapolis. Next, Mayor Hail in 1873, made a non pro tunc entry in a house on Sixth street, and was beaten at a game of Lieu out of about S30 and squealed, since which time it has become general. I only have space to give a few instances associated with the council officers and members of the city government. In 1872, Dykenmti made a non pro tunc entry at Major Moreau, shot at, and hit him. “Now as then” (the legal definition) when Dvkeman showed his hand and Moreau * * * Next night the mob made the brick-bat entry on Musselman’s person and property. In 1873, non pro tunc became general and we have now non pro tunc mayors, councilman, police, lawyers, printers, and men and women at Logansport. This farce is played with variations here in all city affairs. Recently Mayor McFadden made an entry upon the tunc of the Star editor, who in turn non pro tunckcd the Mayor, whereupon Judge Anthony, Smithened Rill’d and non pro funked the Star and the Mayor, both fine and costs 85. The last instance coming under our observation, affords a literal translation, and legal definition, following: to-vvit: The example of Mayor Hall,Messrs. Parker and a son of Bully Brooks, is said to have made a non pro tunc entry at Cabbage Hill, wherein Cap. Powell made a non pro tunc entry at the domicile of Bell King, and Cap-tured the King and the aee and Jack of clubs. Messrs Parker,Brooks, ami King paired off and played a low hand, but were escorted to the Gimmel house, the game to be played out in city judge’s court, policeman Kirk holding the King, and Powell and another the aee and Jack, and sequeled by an introduction to Judge Smith, on a charge of ill fame, whereupon the following dialogue ensued:Judge, to Miss. King—You are charged with keeping a house of prostitution; what is your plea, guilty or not?Miss. King—Guilty! You bet.Judge—I put your fine at $5 and costs, the lowest penalty known to the law, but I won’t promise you, if caught again, that I wontmake it $20 or $30, and could make it $75.The men and brethren ail being equal before the law were accordingly fined $5 and costs. Whether the Judge in the investigation about to pronounce sentence asked Miss. King’ s accusers “which among you cast the first stone.” Silence prevailed in court, even with the police, and the Judge failed to see and apply the admonition, i. e., “neither will I condemn thee; go then and sin no more:” neither are we informed whether the King of Cabbage Hill responded. You bet, cannot be proven by this deponent, and further saitii not. Pkff.
