Rumors have persisted that the Kansas City Royals major league baseball club was going to move one of its many operations to the Venice area. Well, there now seems to be something more than rumor. According to City Manager Dale Rieth, he, Ron Hicks, form er president of the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce, and ano ther Chamber member, had had talks with Kansas City officials. They were in regard to moving the Royals minor league spring training base here. However this would not take place for at least two years, due to the fact they still have a contract at the pre sent location. Rieth said that the Venice area was one of three being consider ed. He added that the KC officials were “favorably impressed” with Venice. The operation that was sup posed to be moved here, is one now in Lee County, according to Rieth. However, Dean Taylor of the KC organization, who was contacted recently, mentioned an operation in Sarasota. So, there is some confusion in regard to where the operation is, to be moved here. As to where the site is, being considered here, Rieth said it is in the city. But, he refused to state exactly where in the city.
