BET ON BRYAN♦And Lost. And Is Now Riding a Donkey To San Fran* dsco to Pay the Bet.t- A. Lewis called our attention to a novel election bet which is now beingpaid, by a New York man. He gave us*a copy of his old home paper, the Albion N. Y, News, from which we clip the following:—R. Pitcher Woodward, D. D, struck Albion last night with a frozen noze and two bullet holes in his hat. Mr. Wood-w rd. who is a long, slim, good looking, good talking sort of a fellow, called at the News office this morning. He said, the “D D” means “donkey driver,** as he is on bis way from New York to San Francisco with a little forlorn looking donkey as his only companion in settlement of an election bet.He started from home Nov. 27th with only 99 e'mts in his pocket and if he fails to reach San Francisco by Nov 8, 1897% h • forfeits $5,000He has had lots of experience since he left home thus far. having been held up by robbers and being the mark for bullets, and last Tuesday night he froze his nose. He gives lectures on the way to keep him and hi3 donkey from starving j r to death.He will lecture in the village hall this evening on “New York to San Francisco on a Donkey.’* Ten cents will be the price of admission.
