F to I has hadViola Williams, a 32-year-old. good looking negress. is a prisoner in the Vernon Parish jail, accused of murder in the first degree. At the inquest held by Coroner George W. Dennis. at Stille Station, last Monday, the jury found that Steve Cooley, with whom Viola hod been living, near Short Mills, since November last, was stabbed by her in the right chest, causing instant death, the knife with which the deed was done having been given to Viola by her neighbor. Rubin Sanders, who has been arrested with her by Sheriff Turner, as an accessory before the fact. Several witnesses have testified that Viola and Cooley were constantly quarreling and that on February 3rd. she showed an axe to several people, telling them that on the next morning she was going to kill Cooley with that very axe. But as Cooley foiled to come home. she. changing her program, carried out her well meditated plan on the evening between 5 and 6. when Cooley made his appearance. The axe not being handy iust then, she called for a good knife, which Sanders made haste to give her. Laurel Killingworth and several other persons were present, when Cooley fell to the floor, and they say that Viola, exultingly laughing, cried out: *Tve killed him at last, just as 1 intended. Viola has a little home of her own at Short Mills, where also her mother live*. She was married twice before she went to live with Cooley, who was a farm laborer and lumber jack.
