Athol Boy Was Two Days and Nights on a Freight Train In France Severe interesting letters have been received in Athol during the past few days from Athol boys in France. each one tells of the good things that were enjoyed on Christmas and New Year's, and all speak of the joy of receiving letters and papers from home. One letter was from R. J. Snoorer to J. J. Hindes. Spooner is in a town with only about 25 houses. The town is over 400 years old and things are pretty well behind the times. The weather is cold, walking slippery and general con ditions none too promising. Spooner wrote that he Ubed France much better than Syngland. He stated that the trip across the channel was, in a cattle boat and when they landed in France they were loaded into box cars and rode two days and two nights. We are called “I. C. ‘T.'s, which in plain language means freight car tourists. The roads are fine in France. ‘They look like cement and are as smooth as glass and it is easy to hit 60 miles an hour in an auto. He said he could tes tify to that himself. Another Athol boy who wrote home was Ashton O. Teddy, who is with the 6th Engineers, he wrote that he was still on the ship he camé over on. Te had been there about six days. “On the trip over we slept in our clothes all the time and lights went out at 4 in the afternoon and we ate at 7:90, 12 and 300 . Still another and very interesting Tet ter was written by Will Jones of Athal to Willis Lovejoy, Vic said that he thought they had the Germans worried to death already.
