Work has been resumed on the new Public School building. George Buttler, a former Hays Eo was up from LaCrosse, Sun- Mr, and Mrs. Richard Drees left for Oakley, last Monday, on a short visit. Mrs. F. D. Fox of Kansas City, visited with her friend, Mrs. C. D. this week. Pearl McIntosh spent the week end with her cousin, Miss Esther Joy who lives on a farm north of Hays. The many friends of Mrs. Rosa L. Gray, will be sorry to hear that she was taken to St. Luke's hospital in Colorado, to undergo an operation. Ben Blougher from Grinnell, Kan sas, has been at the hospital but re turned to his home Wednesday. He has a sister and brother attending the Normal School. A. P. Steiner, a former resident of Hays, who has been living in Can ton, Ohio, for the past three years, writes: “In closed fund check for $1.50 to apply on my subscription. Old Church Spire Must Go. ‘The spire of the old Congregational church in Greenwich, Conn, whose goal is the highest point between New York city and New London, has been condemned. The church, it is said, is the richest in Connecticut. Its spire has been used for years as a steering guide by vessels. The high cost of living will ease many adversities At present oranges are cheaper than onions and apples are cheaper than potatoes. A few years ago they sang:—“The high cost of living is only a joke, the high cost of living is keeping me broke.” Today the former has pro ven to be more than a joke, but you never hear any complaint about the latter.
