BALL—Captain Spencer J. Ball, late com i mander of tlie steamer Charley Cheeyer, of the j Northern Line, passed from earth to heaven on : the i8th of January, 1875, at the residence of his ! father in St. Clair, Franklin county, Mo., look- j ing unto Jesus the author and finisher of his faith. The subject of this memoir was born in Clarksville, Mo., in the year 1847, and was 27 years old at the time of his death. He was a man of great firmness. He could scarcely be persuaded to do a wrong if he knew it. From his youth up he esteemed piety and was religiously inclined, but it was not until the hour of death that he trusted in the merits of the crucified one. From one who attended him in the hour of death I learned that he said, “I am trusting in the Savior; his blood cleanseth from all sin; I am not afraid to die.” Thus his spirit passed from earth away to a brighter and a better home. May God bless the bereaved ones. May they be united in Christ on earth, and eternally united with him and the loved one gone before in heaven.C. E, DeVinnev.■ -inr ▼ . .1.*. 1 t • t . 1 r If *
