Free Fight in the Cotton Market.i Abbeville Press and Banner. The Hon. Joshua Ashley, of i Anderson, who is a member of the present Legislature has introduced a bill in the house prohibiting any incorporated town in ,South Carolina from charging cotton and cottonseed buyers a license.Mr. Ashley's reason for introducing such a bill is that it may encourage buyers for the staple and seed. I le says that we should encourage buying rather than discourage it by charging a license for the privilege. It is said that the bill has received much favorable criticism and will likely become a law. There is no doubt hut that such a hill will he favorable to the farmers, for under its provisions any one who wishes may buy cotton on the streets. Heretofore many individuals have bought cotton as a speculation but not being licensed buyers they have i secured their stock through licensed buyers.
