By Laura Hildebrandt On Friday Jan 27, Coe hosted Luther College and the University of Chicago in a triangular swim meet. Both the men and the women of Coe swept the record board and beat both teams. The women’s team set seven new records and qualified the 200 free relay (Kim Lempe, Brigette Bergemann, Jaime Whittemore, Laura Hildebrandt) for nationals to be held in Atlanta Georgia in March. The other school records were set by Selena Collett (1650 free-159.9), Jami Whittemore (100 free-56.79) and Lynn Yarde (100 breast-1:15.67). The men’s team set four new records. The 400 medle relay (Mike Horton, Frank Hansen, Tom Mason, Kevin No vreske) went 3:46.58. Mike Horton swam a 56.3 in 100 back, and Kevin Novreske a 1:47.98 in the 200 free. Frank Hansen did a 2:22.87 in the 200 breast. The next day Coe swam in another triangular meet with UNI and Augus tana. The women’s team won against both teams while the men’s team beat UNI but lost to Augustana. Brigette Bregmann broke her own record set the day before in the 200 free (2:01.6). Brigette also set a new record in the 200 fly(2:20.27). Laura Hildebrandt set a new school record in the 200 back (2:30.11). Finishing in first place for the men’s team was Steve Johnson (200 IM), Kevin Novreske (200 free and 200 fly), and Todd Christiansen (1 meter diving).
