“Continued good progress in the organization of the Federated Jewish Fund 1965 Campaign” was reported by Chairman Dr. Charles S. Fine at divisional and over all campaign meetings in the last few days. Leadership of the Campaign, currently involved in a two day leadership institute, the first ,of which was held on the evening of February 4 at the Jewish Community Center, re ported continuing recruitment of captains in all divisions, and recruitment of workers or lieu tenants in the Downtown Busi ness and Professional Division, the South End Division, the Overlake Division and the Young Pacesetters Division. Major Gifts Division, the bellwether division of the campaign, held a kickoff meet ing at the Jewish Community Center on Monday, February 1, and is carrying on advance solicitation in preparation for the Major Gifts Dinner on Tuesday evening, March 2, at Glendale Country Club. Fea tured speaker at the Major Gifts Dinner will be Samuel Haber, assistant executive vice president of the Joint Distribu tion Committee, and a recog nized authority on the overseas relief and rescue program. In order for the Federated Jewish Fund to accomplish its purposes, to raise the funds it needs for its overseas, local,and national beneficiaries, to revi talize itself, to embark upon programs that are needed in this city, Dr. Fine, speaking at the Major Gifts meeting, called for raising $400,000 and asked the captains and lieutenants of the division to secure increases of at least 50 per cent in order to raise this total. He announced at the meeting that the top leadership in the campaign had adopted this standard of giving for them selves, and had increased their gifts by 50 per cent. Dr. Fine pointed out that no one ever became poor by giv ing to charity. He added, “Even if, by making this gift, you im poverish yourself to the slight est degree, your reward will be in the enrichment of the com munity to which you belong, from which you derive your livelihood, and whose institu ions it is your duty to sup port.” North End Group Dr. Charles Kaplan and Leo Bloch, co-chairmen of the North End Division, announced the following appointments as captains in the North End Divi sion: Eugene Aaron, Benjamin Asia, Eddie Barrat, Henry Butler, George Grashin, Martin Isler, Howard Keller, Joe Kraft, Dr. Leslie Mackoff, Roy Rosenthal, David M. Sidell, Irving Sidell, Dr. Leo Steeling, Howard Suskin and Dr. Lawr ence Wilets. Barry Schneiderman, chair man of the Young Pacesetters Division, announced the fol lowing captains for that divi sion: Norman W. Clein, Jr., associate chairman; Larry Barakas, Harold Coe, Lewis Guterson, Dave Hoff, Stanley Israel, George Kohn, Dr. Don Lederman, Dr. Richard Lesh gold, Robert Miller, Morris Piha, Stanley Sidell, David Sternoff, Sol Tacher, Jake Tarica and Irwin Trieger. South End Division Jack Caston and Jack Green berg, co-chairmen of the South End Division, announced that their next divisional meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb ruary 9, in the evening, at the home of Dr. Charles S. Fine. They listed the following as captains and lieutenants re cruited for the campaign: Jacob D. Almeleh, Albert Altaras, Sol Altcheck, Gabriel Amira, Albert B. Angel, Morris Ayash, Isaac Baruch, Elazar Behar, Jack Behar, Barney Benardout, Ezra Benezra, Jack I. Benezra, Edward Bensussen, Isaac Benveniste, Joseph Ben veniste, Jack Calvo, Marco Calvo, Orville Cohen, Alfred Cordova, Tom Cordova, Harold Drebin, Victor J. Ezraty, Robert Franco, Rabbi William Green berg, Ralph Hasson, Max L. Israel, Isaac Morhaime, Maurice Morhaime, Rabbi Solomon Maimon, Albert Ovadia, Joe Ss. Peha, Victor Piha, Sam Sadis, Izak Schaloum, Lazar Schar hon, Victor Scharhon, Morris Tarica, Dr. Samuel Tarica, Ruben Tarica, J. M. Touriel, Albert, Uziel and Leon Uziel. LONG BEACH, Calif. (JTA) Immediate construction has been started on a 600-seat audi torium for the Jewish Commu nity Center here. The audito rium is being named for Nathan Schulman, a member of the board of directors of the Jew ish Community Federation and president of the Federation Free Loan Association.
