Dish begins five night run on SC stageOpening a five-night stand in Bovard auditorium at 8:31 this evening, the cast of “Broken Dishes” will attempt to keep the audience in the aisles, roaring with laughter from curtair. time ’till the last curtain call.Virginia Patton and James Butler will portray two of the :--I most lovable characters ever to ap-j pear on the Bovard stage, Cyrui j Bumpsted and his daughter Elaine Cyrus is an example of patience and good nature. His unruffled temper in the midst of the con-j tinual bickerings of his wife and elder daughters might be mistaken for a Casper Milquetoastish personality, hut his youngest daughter, Elaine, proceeds to show that this is not so.The pair conspire to solve Elaine’s love problems against the opposition of Jenny Bumpsted, Elaine’s mother, played by Barbara Willcox, and the two old-maid sisters, Myra and Mabel Bumpsted, played by Florence Stevenson and Shirleymae Spaulding.All in all, the story of the rebellion of the persecuted daughter provides plenty of laughs.William C. de Mille, professor of drama and director of the play, put the cast through its paces at dress rehearsal last night. Minor flaws were smoothed out, and the cast was prepared for tonight’s opening.Miss Patton has held small parts in several Hollywood movies. She appeared in “Hollywood Canteen,” and attracted favorable comment when she played in the recent SC play, “Holiday.”Butler, who gives a laughable portrayal of Cyrus, the henpecked hubby, is a graduate student at SC. Those who have seen him at rehearsal described his performance as “tops.”Miss Willcox, the domineering mother, had dramatic experience at Pasadena Junior college before she transferred to SC.Bill Clark, in love with Elaine, is played by Dick Thorpe, who is in the Xavv V-12 program at SC, and held a good part in “Holiday.” The character part of Sam Green, Cyrus’ buddy who gets drunk on apple cider, is taken by Don Hoch-len, V-12.Bob Dischner plays the deaf Rev. Dr. Stump, and Leo Mala-muth, a veteran, plays the part of a stranger whose entrance into the plot builds up the character of Cyrus. Quinn, a detective, is (Continued on Page Four)
