Clash Between Mayer and Aldermen at Hearing To morrow Regarded as Cer tain to Come. REPUBLICANS ARE FULLY OPPOSED Valley, Avery and Ardmore Proposals Expected to Draw Fire of City Execu tive and Party. Bitter opposition to the annex ation recommendations of the Al dermanic committees is anticipated at the hearing on the program = in the Common Council chambers to Morrow oftowmann 2b 8ots The committee, headed by Alder man Fred 5. Kelley of the 19th Ward, will meet with Mayor Wal rath prior to the hearing. The Mayor, it is reported, is not in accord with the aldermanic pro gram and a clash is expected be tween them over the plans for an nexation of Onondaga Valley and the Avery and Ardmore tracts. Would Sell Water. The Mayor has endorsed a plan for selling the city water service to the suburban districts, which he says, oppose annexation. The Legislature will be asked shortly to pass a bill authorizing the sale off the water service. Republican legislators are a qualifiedly opposed to the proposi tion. They take the stand that the suburbs should become a part of the city if they desire the water service. d. A. Babcock and Mrs. Henry Gulbert of the Avery tract assert that the vast majority of residents of that district are opposed to an nexation. They claim that only 20 of the 180 residents are in favor of annex ation and informed Mayor Walrall that annexation was defeated at a meeting on the proposition by a vote of 22 to 1}. A referendum, they declare, will show three fourths of the residents opposed to annexation. Babcock said that other sprines, providing the water supply, have been torn up repeatedly since the annexation proposition took form. Springs Are O. K. “The springs have been repaired each time,” said Babcock. “I cannot say Who is responsible for tearing them up, I want to say now that the water supply up there is as pure now as it was when I first went there to live 15 years ago. Each spring will yield no less than 1,000 pails of water a week and that is more than enough to supply the residents.” Onondaga Valley, Alderman Kel sey claims, favors annexation. Op ponents of the plan informed the Major that the majority are against the proposal but desire to purchase the water service from the city. Willis T. Sargent, assemblyman of the Second district, said he has been informed by residents of the Valley that they favor a formal referendum on annexation after the bill passes the Legislature.
