COUNTY OFFICERS DOING THEIR DUTY In retiring from citizenship in Fountain county, as well as from ed itorial work, Wheeler McMillen, late publisher of the Covington Republi can, gives this last word to the people of Fountain county: In the course of this mess of ram bling reflections, there is one matter to which I wish to direct particular attention. I have taken pride in the fact that during the last three years the county government has been under republican control; not so much be cause it is republican control, but be cause it is righteous control. I have no political ax to grind now. I will profit none by further republican ad ministration patronage. So I can say freely, and I want to say it emphat ically, that probably no Indiana coun ty is blessed with as capable, efficient and honest an administration as that which is handling the affairs of this county. I have been in almost daily contact with these men. I have sat in their private councils. I have con sulted with them on topics of public policy. And I want to say to the peo ple of Fountain county, that never by word or deed, directly or indirec tly, has there been manifested on the part of these county officers any at titude but that of honest effort to serve the county as best they can, to be economical with the public money, and to keep the public business as they would their own. Fountain county will be voting contrary to its highest interests if it does not re turn to office those who seek re-elec tion. And I further anticipate that the new men who will be on the ticket next fall will be as fully as high a type.
