MORPHINE HABITCauses the Lonely Death of JacobFriestone.Found at His Home In Springfield Township, With a Note Telling the Whole Tale.The report received in this city yesterday to the effect that a man had*been found dead at Hall’s Corners, and asking Coroner Harrod to come at once to the place, was verified yesterday afternoon. The man proved to be Jacob Firestone aged 50, who lived on a farm a mile northwest of Halls Corners, in Scipio township. He was found dead in bed in his house, death being due to an overdose of morphine.At first it was supposed he had taken the dose with suicidal intent, as there was a partially filled bottle labeled “morphine,” found on a table beside the bed, but a letter found later among his effects, contained the statement that he was addicted to morphine and expressed a fear that he would one day fall a victim to the habit.0Firestone leaves a wife and several children. Last Tuesday his wife went to visit friends at Indianapolis, and the old gentleman was last seen alive Tuesday evening feeding his stock. Early yesterday morning, neighbors fearing that something had happened, him burst open the door of his house with the above result.Firestone formerly resided in Goshen but removed to Halls Corners last June, having purchased 70 acres of land.
