Employees of Stevens Memorial Hospital in Edmonds celebrated the hospital’s ninth anniversary with an employee’s tea last week. Hospital Administrator Jon Smiley said the event was marked by tremendous growth of the hospital, from seven patients on its first day of operation, to 142 on the day of one tea, Tuesday, Jan. 30. Smiley presented 85 service awards to employees of the hospital marking both three and five year service records. In addition, a special award was presented to Hospital District Commissioner Del H. Barton. Barton, who along with Commissioner Albert Thurmond was present to hand out the awards, was honored for 10 years as a hospital commissioner. Barton attended his first commissioner meeting in January of 1963. Five year employment pens were presented by 30 hospital mployees, including 18 in the nursing department. Those receiving the awards included: Eva Allen, Ruth Allen, Evelyn M. Anderson, Marie E. Bringedahl, Maisy Ho Chang, Margaret F. Chessman, Lucretia E. (Betty) Cooper and Velda S. Dye. Others were Evah Edwards, Anne P. Harrison, Darlene M. Herrmann, Reiden R. Holt, Fern Irwin, Lenora J. Kruse, Virginia K. Lee, Gertrude B. Martinson, Emily M. O'Reilly, Beverlie O. Ort, Bernice M. Patterson, Jean M. Rohona and Helen M. Scott. Also receiving five year pins were: Clarice E. Shaw, Fern J. Sheets, Loretta F. Snyder, Elvina M. Stockman, Margaret E. Tobias, Frances E. Viger, Gerald A. Walters, Judith Williams and Evelyn M. Wilson. Three year certificates were presented to 55 _ hospital employees, and the nursing department again lead all others with 33 awards. Awards went to: Lester W. Alnor, Ruth A. Anderson, Vera L. Axelson, Mary K. Brittle, Floyd F. Brown, Alice J. Burgoyne, Mary C. Clack, Dorothea G. Cotton, Marie A. Davis, Sophia B. Davis, Carol R. Detomasi, Delores B. Downing and Margaret L. Ebert. 3 YEAR AWARDS Others included: Elizabeth Ellis, June H. Gerken, Gertrude S. Givens, Marion L. Goetz, Barbara E. Gould, Charlene M. Grigg, Joanne J. Hall, Therease M. Headley, Irene C. Helm, Bettye L. Hensel, Gerda E. Hupfauf, Gisela E. Joedicke and Ella Kimery. Awards also went to: Marion L. Kronquist, Elizabeth A. Larson, Rosalind Loftin, Elsie J. Lyman, Muriel I. Mackinnon, Alyce M. McQuaid, Alice A. Medin, Sonia B. Miller, Janet M. Morgan, Leontine E. Olsen, Lena Opp, Trent Ortwein and Carol E. Pearson. Also receiving awards were: Patricia A. Peckham, Muriel J. Pederson, Audrey N. Pollard, Elaine J. Quillen, Mary K. Russell, Lucille T. Sinninger, Dena C. Smith, Stephanie A. Squires, Terry B. Swenson, Susanne M. Thomas, Rita A. Thompson, Ileen V. Triplett, Sue D. Webber, Marie M. Weir, Jennifer L. Williams and Adeline M. Wynne.
