Bebane, South Belmar, MIDDLETOWN — The township committee meeting in adjourned session Tuesday afternoon, sold $217,000 worth of general improves ment bonds to Boland, Saffin com pany of New York and the Mer chants Trust company of Red Bank for $287 bonus and at an interest rate of 2.80 per cent. .. There were seven bidders, the highest being the Fidelity Union Trust company, Newark, one bonus of $567.24 and an interest rate of 2.20 per cent. The other bid ders were Keansburg National bank, $99.82 bonus and 2,125 rate; National State bank of Newark rand. Schmidt, Poole company, $627.13 bonus and 1.90 rate; Ryan, Hanautr ‘ company, Newark, $173.38 bonus and 1.90 rate:the Atlantic Highlanda National bank, ‘$151.90 bonus and 1.90 rate and J. B. Hanauer company, New ark, $23.87 bonus and 1.20 rate. In the bond advertisement’ and blank proposal, the total @TOAs debt of the township was reported at $870,200. This total Includes $573, 000 in school bonds and $303,200 in general improvement bonds. The population was reported at 16,203, and the total assessed valua tion at $10,536,855. The real Prop erty assessment amounts to 59, 728,700, the second class railroad property, $7,955, and personal Property, $1,250,000. The rate of a tax collections has been improving steadily since 1947, and the collection rate last year was 9230 per cent. Of the total taxes billed by the township last year of $839,688.20, only $55,288.60 were uncollected at the end of the year.
