ItThey Vote To Quit New YorkFISHER’S ISLAND, N. Y , Fob. 6 (ANS) — Residents of Fisher’s Island, which is situated on Long Island Sound, voted at a mass meeting yesterday to secede from New York State and ask the Connecticut legislature to make them a part of that state. It was agreed at the meeting to seek introduction of bills into the legislatures of both states calling for the appointment of a joint commission to study the feasibility of annexation toConnecticut.Proponents of the secession plan have emphasized that the island lies closer to Connecticut coastal communities than it does to those on the New York shore. Consequently, most of the island’s business activities are carried on with Connecticut merchants. The only opposition to the plan which was voiced at the meeting was by lobster fishermen who feared some restrictive Connecticut law might interfere with their livelihood; however, it was pointed out that the New York and Connecticut fishing laws are almost identical.
