Should a fire break out in some loeah-iiies, a dozen, and perhaps more, buildings, would be consumed before iu progress could be stayed. Every property-bolder would cheerfully share in a tax sufficient to purchase a fire engine, if that tax could be properly *M*sed and collected, in an equal proportion, from all the property in the town. Unoccupied lots should bear a portion of the expense as well as others.
