Should a fire break out in some locali-ities, a dozen, and perhaps more, buildings, would be consumed before iu progress could be stayed. Every property-holder would cheerfully share in a tax sufficient to purchase a fire engine, if that tax could be properly a*lt;e*sed and collected, in an equal proportion, from ail the property in the town. Unoccupied lots should bear a portion of the expense as well as others. They share in the rise of property, and it is but just that they should share in making public improvements for the good of all.
