CASE DISMISSED Anton Deittmeyer proceeded against Lily Potter for using insult ing words at Helensburgh on Jan. 26th. Mr. ©. Penny appeared for the defendant, who pleaded not guilty The complainant, a miner, of Hel ensburgh, stated he and Tom Rayner were together on Postman's Track and on passing defendant, she cnt out to witness “You brought that woman up here, you dirty mongrel.” In answer to Mr. Penny, witness said he was of German nationality, but he denied always looking for trouble, although he admitted having had a number of housekeepers dur ing the past twelve months. He told Mr. Penny he had brought several women up to the court. Thomas Henry Rayner, railway porter, stated Mrs. Potter first spoke to him and then made use of the lan guage complained of. Mr. Penny submitted there — with no ease to answer as it had not been proved to whom the language was used. The S.M. upheld this contention, and dismissed the information, with £ 1/1/- costs, in default four days. INSULTING WORDS John Fisher proceeded against Robinson Dawson, charging him with using insulting words at Helensburgh on Jan. 28th. He pleaded not guilty. Mr. C. Penny appeared for the complainant. John Fisher, miner, of Helens burgh, stated the defendant was in the Workmen’s Club billiard room on Jan. 28th. He approached witness and said “You pemmy —, and your wife's no different.” Witness did not make any reply and the only other person present was Mr. Cooper. Dawson was under the influence of liquor and witness had given him no provocation, in fact they had always been the best of friends. In cross-examination by defendant, witness admitted swearing just as much as any other man. William Wilson Cooper, draper, at UWelensburgh, stated he knew Dowson and Fisher and they were arguing when he came on the scene. He heard defendant make use of the language complained of. Dowson was very excited and witness was trying to quieten them. The defendant did not offer any evidence, nor did he make any statement. The S.M. commented on the lan gage and defendant said he could lay informations against any number of men for using similar language, but did not do so as he did not take any notice of it. Fined £ 2 with £ 2/2/- profession al costs, and 10/- court costs, in de fault 21 days.
