Kerkam, chief of theweather bureau, says of the Februaryprecipitation on this coast:North of the line drawn fromMarin county on the west to Monolake on the east, the fall averagesfrom 4 to 10 inches, except in theSacramento valley where it rangesfrom nearlv 2 to about 3 inches.• *The heaviest falls occur along the upper coast (except on the west Humboldt and north Mendocino' counties, where the fall is ' only from 2 to 3 inches) and in a belt of country embracing from Placer to Plumas counties in the eastern 'portion; of northern California whereit averages from 8 to 11 inches. In the southeastern portion of northern California, and in the northeastern and southwestern portions ot Southern California less than an inch occurs, but in the western half of the State, south of San Francisco bay the fall is generally from 2 to 4 inches, though the upper San Joaquin valley and San Benito county do not receive more than from 1 to^ 2 inches.West of the Coast and San Ber-«nardino mountainsthe rains average from .2.1o-4 inches, though Orange and the eastern portion of SanBernardino counties have but from♦1 to 2 inches.
